Antique Pickle Castor & Lidded Sugar Dish by Rockford Silver Plate Co. C1882-95
A Real Collector's Find from a Selective Collector's Estate! Neat Victorian Era Rockford Silver Plate Company Combo Featuring a Nice Pickle Castor with 12 Panel Glass Jar, Lid & Bird Claw Tongs! Plus an Exceptionally Rare Sugar Dish with Hinged Lid & Intricate Floral Pattern.
Castor set is approx: 11.25" H x 4.5" W, (Glass Jar is 6.5" H w/Lid), the Sugar Dish is approx: 3.5" W x 2.5 H. Really a nice & rare combo. The pickle castor set is complete as shown in pictures.The 12 sided glass holder/jar is in good shape, just a few small chips on bottom & small production blip on upper rim & minor scuffs. This appears to be one of the earliest castor sets made by the Rockford Silver Plate Co.
It has a #620 stamped on it as well. Great decor piece and for use as well. For collectors, the double maker's mark is special as it helps define the history of piece and it's approximate date of manufacture. We could not find any others will both markings, but there may be some others around.
The lidded sugar bowl or dish is an exceptionally rare piece marked Rockford Silver P. Co and Quadruple (meaning quadruple plated) #1176 and has a neat intricate floral pattern. The pickle castor set is likely made in 1882-83, as noted, the sugar dish is likely 1880's-1890's.
We did not attempt to clean the items as many people like the patina'd look. Please review all pictures taken for your consideration and use zoom if needed. We photographed from multiple angles. Both items are in really good condition with some minor wear from age.
