Antique Victorian Derby Silverplated 7pcs Etched Glass Cruet Rotating Carousel. Today we are happy to offer for sale a wonderful Victorian rotating silverplate cruet set from Derby Silver Co.
Dating to the Victorian era, this lovely and practical condiment carousel is crafted of silverplate metal and features a long, ornate carrying handle with Art Nouveau design elements, including flowers, leaves, dots and rays. A round inverted tray with cutouts for 6 condiment bottles spins freely on its pedestal stand. The tray is adorned with more Art Nouveau relief panels of floral scenes. The carousel is marked Derby.
Six etched glass condiment bottles are included, three with an etched abstract leaf motif, and three wiht a more distinct flower panel design. There are four tall and two short bottles.Each has a tapered base to properly sit in the carousel tray and a silverplate cap. Four of them, the ones attached to the tall bottles, are shaker-style caps; the other two, on the short bottles, are hinged lids. One of the lids is not connected at the hinge.
One of the shaker caps sits loosely on the mouth of the shaker and may need to be modified. Set presents well and is offered in good, as-found antique condition, with wear, tarnish and patina commensurate with age. Carousel has a ding in the metal on the underside (not noticeable when viewing from normal angles).
Bottles have some roughness at the rims. One short bottle has a crack, another tall bottle has a minor chip, but no other major damage has been noted. Lids have patina and some are dented, but no major splits have been noted.One lid has a small hole, another is not attached at the hinge, and a different cap appears slightly too loose for the bottle it comes with.
